Vestigios

Vestigios (Vestiges)

The photographs were taken 200 meters underground in the "Salt Cathedral", a series of salt mines in the savannah of Cundinamarca, Colombia; These salt deposits were produced 250 millions years ago, when the tethys sea dried up.
Conceptually the series are part of a perception of the unattainable in nature. On an unconscious level, we can perceive primitive sensations of abyss from the interaction with the overwhelming force of the primal.
Even when the photographs have the iconoclast gesture of avoiding the portrait of the religious symbols, because of the ornamental illumination that make the shots possible the images are inevitably related to the doctrine and the human conquest, transformation and even energetic exploitation of the natural environment.
